Barry Issac (Man of the Century)
Born, 23 August 1955 Portland, Jamaica, West Indies. In 1966 Isaacs joined his parents in the UK where he continued his education. He initially formed a band in the mid-70s known as Ras Isaacs and The Rasses, prior to the emergence of the Royal Rasses. The band enjoyed a strong local following in north London and the Midlands where they performed in the roots and culture style. The group disbanded in 1980 and Isaacs concentrated on a solo career, releasing ‘Special King of Love’, which featured backing vocals from Trevor Walters. Isaacs’ initial success led to the 1980 release of ‘Come Turn Me On’, followed by a combination with Eli Emmanuel, the inane ‘Tickle Me Medley’. In 1985 with other artists he released ‘One More Rub a Dub’ for Three Kings. In the late 80s Isaacs formed the Reggae on Top label, working with the cream of UK roots performers. He continued to record his own songs, including the popular 90s hits ‘Revelation Time’ and ‘Happiness’, but concentrated his efforts on promoting his increasing roster of artists, including UK roots stalwart Pablo Gad, I Jah Man’s former right-hand man Steven Wright, and the astute Hughie Izachaar. In 1997 Isaacs released his own ‘Birthday Song’ and embarked on a promotional tour.
